Nick Biancucci Memorial Site
Nick passed away as a result of a car accident on July 7th, 2006. He was on his way back to work at 4:30 in the afternoon. The simple, honest intent here was to create something positive from something tragic. We decided to do something for the current and future youth of Harwinton. We completed contruction of two outdoor basketball courts in Harwinton. The courts are located within the new Harwinton Sports Complex located at the end of Bentley Drive in Harwinton. They were completed in 2009.
We are continuing to hold the following two fundraisers. The Harwinton 5k Road Race and the Nick Biancucci Memorial Golf Tournament. This is our continued commitment to our son Nick and to the town of Harwinton.
The 5th Annual Harwinton Road Race will take place on Sunday, June 24th
2012. The race will again start and finish at the new Harwinton Sports Complex located at the end of Bentley Drive. We welcome both walkers and runners.

The 7th Annual Nick Biancucci Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, September 30th 2012

I’d like to extend a most sincere thanks to all those who have either donated to
our cause or have participated in either the golf tournament or the road race
over the last few years. We are hopeful that you can once again participate in
either of these 2 fundraisers this year. 5th Annual Harwinton Road Race Sunday June 24th, 2012 This year marks our 5th year of holding the Harwinton 5k Road race.
Here’s a brief history. We originally held the Road Race in 2008 with the Start and Finish located at the Harwinton Fairgrounds. We were able to complete the construction of the Basketball Courts (formally named the Nick Biancucci Memorial Basketball courts) the following summer of 2009. The proceeds from the Road Race originally went toward the construction of the courts. (now toward maintaining them as well as a Scholarship in memory of Nick).
As the basketball courts were completed just in time ( LITERALLY)- we re-located the Road Race route to both start and finish at the basketball courts. We held the Grand Opening of the courts at the conclusion of the 2009 Road Race as well. It went great !!
The last change came in 2011 when we reversed the road race course route.
We were given a considerable amount of feedback that the previous route was too hilly –especially on Delay Road. I had some concerns that I won’t bore you with here, but lets just say they were in regards to it being worth the change enough to make it an easier route to run. So, with this in mind and the many runners previous feedback, I ran the route myself in “reverse” to make that assessment.
It certainly was an easier route to run for sure!!
From that, I chose to reverse the route and received thanks from many of the 2011 participants. (The new and improved “route map” is outlined for your viewing below)
So, with all the above, we are about to venture into the 5th Annual Harwinton 5k
Road Race.
Hopefully you can join us this year to either run or walk. If you haven’t experienced this race as yet, we have a live band that will entertain you before, during and after the race.
We also have Italian Ice brought in from Vecchitto’s Italian Ice.. out of Middletown Ct.
If you’ve never had their Italian Ice- SINCE 1932 by the way) you DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE MISSING. It is clearly the WORLD’S BEST Italian Ice.
So PLEASE plan your morning on Sunday June 24th (10:30Am Start) to be with us. You will be more than happy that you made us part of your day!! We give out a GREAT, Quality T-shirt to all registered participants too!! (Registration info below as well).

This year’s Harwinton Road Race will be on: Sunday, June 24th 2012.
The race will start at 10:30AM.
Pre-Registration is $20.00- up till Sunday, June 17th, 2012.
Registration as of June 18th up to and including Race Day- $25.00
All participants receive a Tee Shirt.
Walkers Welcome !!
Awards, Prizes, Refreshments at conclusion of race.

Proceeds from the Road Race will go towards improvements and maintenance at the basketball courts. Also we continue to honor a scholarship in memory of Nick for a Lewis Mills High School Graduate.
